Zandra Rhodes Collab

Zandra Rhodes collaborates with Three Graces London on a series of bespoke prints

Iconic British fashion and textile designer Dame Zandra Rhodes has collaborated with Three Graces London on a series of bespoke prints; the first chapter of which appears within the label’s Summer 2019 collection. The latest Resort 2020 collection comes alive with a painterly charm; channeling the spontaneous creative spirit of the island. Crisp cotton separates feature a bold blue banana leaf motif ‐ echoing the hand‐painted ceramics of Mediterranean markets.

The collection showcases an expressive design by Rhodes featuring an exotic banana leaf motif. Charmingly whimsical yet simultaneously fresh and modern, the spontaneous illustrative energy of the prints stems from the fact that they are entirely hand-painted; lifted straight from the pages of Rhodes’ sketchbook with the brush strokes still visible. Some leaves sit proud; bold and oversized, whilst others fade into a miniature scale until they resemble softly falling feathers.

As a reinterpretation of Rhodes’ Mexican Banana Leaf print from her legendary late ’70s Mexican Collection, the motif conveys a gently retro mood; conjuring images of Three Graces’ constant muse and one-time Zandra Rhodes model Bianca Jagger in her Studio 54 prime.

Speaking of the collaboration, Rhodes said: "It's been fabulous to interpret my Mexican Banana Leaf print to be used on this beautiful collection by Three Graces. To see my prints enhancing these lovely wearable dresses is the ultimate of what any designer could ask for and another star to celebrate my 50 years as a designer."

Comprised of six new dress styles, the collaboration includes breezy beachwear crafted from cotton voile, refined silk crepe de chine city dresses and bohemian silk chiffon options for evening. Soft pleats, floor-grazing hems, fluid sleeves and diaphanous silhouettes preserve Three Graces’ signature serene sense of chic; perfectly complementing Rhodes’ delicate, feminine prints.

Named in homage to the famous Zandra Rhodes designs worn by Princess Diana, the Diana is the ultimate dreamy summer dress - ideal for balmy nights. Other styles are appointed classic French girl names; giving customers the opportunity of being an Honore, a Julienne, a Francille, a Gabriella or a Solaine for the day.

During the six-month collaborative process to complete the prints, every detail - from the colour and scale to the placement - was carefully considered by both studios; a fact that is belied by the effortless appeal of the finished garments.

Rhodes’ first print collaboration since her acclaimed work for Valentino, Three Graces’ Summer 2019 collection marks the start of an exciting new creative partnership.
